Echoes of Aincrad Characters - Protagonist

Your NerveGear-scanned avatar — one of 10,000 trapped players fighting through Aincrad's first two floors as a beta-era survivor.

Player Character / Player choice (6 types)

Profile Facts

  • You create the protagonist instead of playing through Kirito's perspective.
  • Character creator uses NerveGear body scan plus preset body options and feature sliders (unlocked after the beta chapter).
  • You were a closed-beta participant alongside Saayu, Wyzeman, and others before the real launch death game.
  • Your route runs parallel to familiar Aincrad events while Kirito and Asuna follow their own path in the background.
  • The protagonist leaves the Starting City and survives by forming parties rather than staying permanently inside safe walls.
  • Weapon choice acts as class selection; changed between quests in Town of Beginnings.
  • Growth Points spent at the Inn Chest Orb; Smithy and merchants scale with Cardinal Rank.
  • Pick 1–3 partner characters at the start of each quest.

To Verify In-Game

  • Floor 1 and Floor 2 quest outcomes.
  • Full role of the beta relic in the story.
  • How beta-tester resentment changes dialogue or quest choices.

Echoes of Aincrad is built around your survival story. You enter as an early beta tester who lived through the closed test, then return for the launch, only to learn logout is impossible and death is real.

Story setup

The game opens during the beta with a dungeon disaster: your original party rushes ahead while you fall behind. After reuniting with Iori, you clear the kobold ruin and receive a mysterious beta relic. When the full game launches, your custom avatar must help push through Floor 1's boss push and an unusual Floor 2 quest that hints at a catastrophe only a handful of players can address.

Not the chosen-world-savior route

The protagonist's importance comes from surviving a parallel route, not replacing the original SAO heroes. You carry beta knowledge, build a party, and make choices under pressure while familiar Aincrad events unfold elsewhere on the same floors.

Party identity

The protagonist is best understood through party choices. Each route asks which ally fills the missing role: mentor, information broker, control partner, heavy damage, emotional stability, or unknown-risk story presence.

Build decisions that matter

  • Weapon — Six melee types; see the weapons database.
  • Stats — Strength, Dexterity, Agility, Intelligence for damage; Vitality, Endurance, Mind for survival and SP.
  • Partners — 1–3 allies per quest; customize their gear and skills from any town Inn.
  • Difficulty + Death Game — See the save guide.

Survival resources

HP does not passively regenerate in combat. Healing Crystals, crafted potions, SP recovery items, and Safety Areas are the survival tools that keep long routes under control.
