Balanced weapon type with power, speed, and reach in an easy-to-use profile.

Range Profile

Close-range sword strings with shield-backed stability.

Known Sword SkillsNames shown clearly in current gameplay footage
  • Sharp Nail
  • Rage Spike
  • Horizontal Quad Slash

Best For

  • First save
  • Boss learning
  • Shield safety
  • Balanced routes

Risk Notes

  • Lower burst ceiling than heavy weapons.
  • Shield removal trades safety for speed and should be tested outside boss rooms.
  • Can become too passive if paired only with defensive partners.
Route Caution

It favors control over burst. Removing the shield increases speed, but also removes the weapon's main safety layer.

Sword and Shield is the cleanest first weapon because it teaches the whole combat language: spacing, guard timing, stamina management, Sword Skill windows, and boss preparation. It is also flexible enough to become faster and riskier if you remove the shield later.

Role

Close-range balanced fighter. The shield gives a safety layer when you are still learning enemy reach, while the sword keeps your punish windows simple and readable. This is the weapon to use when you want to understand a route before optimizing it.

Combat loop

Guard or parry to stay stable, punish recovery windows with short strings, and spend SP on Sword Skills when the enemy is clearly open. Avoid draining stamina just to keep attacking; the weapon is strongest when it always has enough stamina left to block or dodge.

Partner fit

Because the weapon already provides defense, it pairs well with partners that add damage pressure, buffs, scouting, or enemy control. Healing support is still useful for learning bosses, but a pure survival setup can make fights longer than necessary.

Use it when

  • You are learning a new enemy, boss, or floor route.
  • You want a safe first save before trying Death Game Mode.
  • You need shield access but do not want the slower feel of Mace.
